Homosexuality

The Six Bible Verses on Homosexuality

There are six direct references to homosexuality in the Bible — three in the Old Testament and three in the New Testament. Some Biblical scholars say the passages needs to be taken at face value. Other theologians say it’s much more complicated.

Old Testament

The Sin of Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 19:1-9, but Ekezial 16:49 indicates that the cities were destroyed by God for not helping the poor and needy. Some scholars say the sinful sex occurring in Sodom and Gomorrah was rape and incest, which means it doesn’t apply to teachings on consensual same-sex relationships. — Genesis 19:1-24

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. — Leviticus 18:22

If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. — Leviticus 20:13

New Testament

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. — 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

For fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine. — 1 Timothy 1:10

For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. — Romans 1:26-27
